Who’s Who at St John’s
Many people at St John’s give generously of their time and talent, contributing to the life of the church and its community in all sorts of ways. These include singing in the choir, arranging flowers, producing the magazine and visitor leaflets, cleaning, catering, looking after the hall, running events, church sitting, welcoming, serving at the altar, and serving on the PCC or one of its sub-committees.
Parish Priest: Revd Dr Nicholas Buxton
Fr Nicholas came to St John’s in July 2012, after four years as Curate and Minor Canon at Ripon Cathedral, where he was ordained in 2008.
He has a PhD in Buddhist Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, and he trained for ordination at St Stephen’s House, Oxford.
In addition to his role at St John’s, he is also the Diocesan Church and Society advisor for the Diocese of Newcastle, and author of Tantalus and the Pelican: Exploring Monastic Spirituality Today, and The Wilderness Within: Meditation and Modern Life.
Other interests include noodles and coffee, both found in abundance in this parish.
